Find a Web Address for an Ebook

With ebook readers and portable laptops becoming more popular, people are looking for ebooks to read on their devices. There are many ways to find ebooks online; some are available for free in hard-to-find places, which are a little tricky to find, so you likely will have to do more than use a regular search engine.

Instructions :

  1. Search online directories for ebooks. Project Gutenberg and Internet Archive are two such examples of directories. Search for the title or author to find the book you want. Google Books is another option. Visit books.google.com, or search from the main Google page and then select “Books” from the “More” section in the menu at the top of the results. Once you go to the page where the text of the book is displayed, you can get the URL or web address from the field in the toolbar of your web browser.
  2. Search using Google’s main search with advanced features. If the main book directory sites don’t have the book you’re looking for, this is another option. Visit google.com and click on “Advanced search” next to the “Search” button. Enter the title and author in one of the top search fields. You can try entering both title and author in “All of these words” or put the title in the “exact phrase” field if the words in the title are common words. Below, you can specify an exact “File format” if you are looking for a specific kind of ebook file, such as a PDF.
  3. Search for the specific file format that works with your ebook reader, such as PDF, MOBI, AZW or EPUB. Google’s search doesn’t allow for all of these file formats, but there’s still a way to do it. In the “All of these words” field, or in the main search field, type in all of the words in the title and include the file extension that goes with the file format you prefer. For example, if you want a PDF file of “Gone with the Wind,” you would type, “gone with the wind pdf.” The search engine will work to find a match that contains the words of the title and the specific format code. If the file exists on the Internet, this should find it for you.
